"I Heart Mary Janes"
Felt Baby Shoe Pattern... With Hearts

I think this is my favorite felt baby shoe pattern yet! These little Mary Jane baby shoes so remind me of being a little girl.

I used to have a pair of shoes just like these as a child. I called them my candy shoes. Because I told all of my friends that they were actually made out of candy. Yes, I know! Silly and a little weird, but I had been told by an old friend that they were so jealous of my "candy shoes" when we were kids. Lol!

And guess what? YOU can make your very own pair of candy shoes for your little girl. Or grand child. Or give them to your best friend at her baby shower.

These shoes are adorable and awesome and so easy to make. Here we go!

Felt Baby Shoe Sewing Instructions

The instructions as follows will be explained as for sewing for felt fabric types. For felt there are no wrong or right sides to the fabric but do mark the pieces to be aware of left and right foot, shoe pattern pieces. Felt can be cut in single or double layers depending on quality and thickness of felt.

Begin by matching the “back of shoe” pieces wrong sides together. Also match up the “sole of shoe” pieces wrong sides together. You may want to pin each both sets of pieces together.

sew baby shoes Line up the “back of shoe” pieces with the “sole of shoe” pieces matching them so that the centers match up (dashed lines represent middle of piece). Right sides should be together.

Begin sewing from the middle point outward at the back heel of the shoe. Match the seams as you sew. When you reach the end of the “back of shoe” piece reinforce the stitch and then go back to the center back of the shoe and begin sewing from the middle outwards again, this time to the opposite edge.

Sew the felt heart applique onto the “front of shoe” pieces, keeping track of right and wrong sides for left and right shoes.

Match the “top of shoe” pieces together with wrong sides facing and pin in place. Match the pinned pieces with the “sole of shoe” pieces with right sides facing. Match the pieces together at the center lines.

sew baby shoesStarting at the top center point of the “front of shoe” piece, begin sewing from the center outwards, matching the seams as you sew.

When you reach the end reinforce the seams and start over back at the center point working outwards at the opposite side.

When you reach the end turn the shoe right side out and begin sewing the “front of shoe” pieces together by stitching along the edge, sewing from one side and ending at the opposite side.

If you’ve decided to make your felt shoes single layered you can choose to leave the edges raw and unsewn or add a detailed edge by back stitching a 1/16th form the edges up along the ankle straps and sides of shoes.

Next sew the “back of shoe” pieces together in the same manner.

Finish the shoe by folding a flap from the middle section of the “front of shoe” piece over the ankle strap and sewing in place. Sewing on a snap or buttons for closure at the outer ankle of the shoes, and at the ankle strap.
